Porsche e la sicurezza
Porsche is setting new standards in improving passive safety systems in cars. With the launch of the new 911 Carrera, the POSIP:System was first used, which is of course also available for the Boxster and the 911 Cabriolet. POSIP stands for "Porsche Side Impact Protection." These are innovative side airbags that provide the driver and front passenger with more comprehensive protection than conventional side airbags. What makes them special is that the two airbags are designed to provide their protective effect even in an open convertible. Only Porsche offers side airbags suitable for convertibles.
The airbag modules, housed in the door panel, also differ from others in their particularly large volume when inflated. With a capacity of 30 liters each, these large airbags offer occupants not only the usual shoulder protection in the event of a side collision. In the POSIP system, the airbag absorbs the body from the pelvis to the head. POSIP ensures this superior level of safety through the airbag's exceptionally generous volume, regardless of the seat's longitudinal adjustment.
The side airbags are each filled by a hybrid gas generator. The pyrotechnic component is minimal in this version; it serves primarily to inflate the airbag. The valve, which allows a filling of the noble gases argon and helium to flow from a pressure vessel into the gas-tight airbag. The two side airbags are triggered in the event of a collision by a sensor on the sill below the door.
