In 1931/32, Horch, Wanderer, DKW and Audi merged with Auto Union AG. Audi not only carried on in building the small DKW front-wheel drive, but is now launching its own larger type of the same design on the market.

Taking advantage of the merge, the drive unit (and in some cases, the bodies) were sourced from Wanderer, for which Ferdinand Porsche team had designed an aluminium 1963cc straight six developing 40 hp.

However, the growing DKW production soon claimed the entire capacity of the plant, so that the Audi Front had to be built and assembled by Horch. The production numbers remained confidential anyway, because the Audi Front is and will remain a car for passionate and individualists.

Initially presented early in 1933, the Audi Front UW 220 was Europe’s first car to combine Front-wheel drive with a six-cylinder engine. It remained in production for slightly under two years before being replaced by the Audi Front UW 225 featuring a larger 2.25-litre engine. The larger-engined car introduced in 1935 was built till April 1938 and continued to be listed into 1939. Between 1933 and 1938, the Front was the only Audi in volume production.

In April 1938, production of the Audi Front ends and in November 1938 the 3.2-litre Audi Type 920, whose six-cylinder engine was derived from the Horch in-line eight-cylinder, was launched.

According to the dealer, this is a truly unique specimen. Improved model made by Gläser company (one of the favorite Audi coachbuilders of the time), with a special equipment and 2969 cc engine and 78 hp that wasn´t used in 1933 for serial production (model UW 220 1,950 cc) nor with the following UW 225 (2,257 cc). Some of the equipment of the Gläser found their way in the later model UW 225. One of a kind.

We don't know whether this is true or not ... but the car is absolutely stunning. P.O.R.
