Porsche 944 S2 in model year 1989: new optics and new Technic

The Porsche 944 S2 was technically and optically renewed in 1989. New to the S2 944 is the 3 liter four-valve engine, which is like has been common practice at Porsche for years with and without catalytic converter delivers 211 hp and an impressive torque of 280 Nm at 4000 rpm.

The character of the new 944 S2 is thus also determined because of the motor with its very high torque. The greater power, combined with it in this horsepower category impressive torque for the Porsche 944 S2 impressive specifications: the top speed climbs from 228 to 240 km / h, from a standstill to 100 km / h the multi-valve sports car in just 6.9 seconds (so far 7.9 sec.).

The Porsche 944 S2 engine belongs to the largest and most powerful four-cylinder engines. Thanks to balance shafts, the engine has a quiet low-vibration rotational characteristic.

The four-cylinder engine with increased capacity is characterised by:

  • forged pistons,
  • a new intake system with optimal reaction properties,
  • an active, controlled engine compartment ventilation by a three-stage blower circuit,
  • a large, external alloy oil cooler with thermostatic control,
  • a modified digital engine electronics with self-diagnosis and autonomously operating readjustment.

An automatic anti-knock control, which Porsche can use alongside the 944 S also in the 944 Turbo and the 928 S4, is especially useful when driving frequently in countries with qualitatively not always optimal fuel. To cope with the increased horsepower and great torque from the new engine the chassis and body are modified too, with Porsche technology of the 220 hp strong 944 Turbo. Gearbox, cardan shafts, competition-proven four-piston braking system, as well as the wide 7 and 8 inch rims with 205/55 and 225/50 ZR 16 tires of the 944 Turbo, make driving in the 944 S2 even safer and more sporty.

The Porsche 944 also displays optically successor to the Turbo. Bodywork and interior are compliant all the details to the hitherto current Turbo standard, which brings additional benefits:

  • improved aerodynamics (cw 0.33 instead of 0.35),
  • high rising polyurethane front spoiler and thus less stone chip damage and collision protection up to 4 km / h,
  • integrated fog lights,
  • improved ventilation and de-aeration of aggregates through bottom spoiler.
  • The equipment was also expanded. The chair for the front passenger is now just like the driver's seat electrically adjustable in height, the automatic heating control is now standard and there is a stronger one built-in battery.
  • With identical equipment and with the technology of the Porsche 944 52 will be the four-cylinder Cabriolet from the beginning 1989 produced and offered. Also for this Cabriolet becomes - as with the 911 Carrera Cabriolet - one manually or electrically operated Convertible top (folding top) offered.
