Loosely translated from the original German
In line with Porsche tradition, the 928 has received an even sportier sibling: the Porsche 928 S, whose V8 lightweight alloy engine delivers 21 kW (300 HP) at 5900 RPM. After increasing the bore from 95 to 97 mm, the displacement now amounts to 4.7 liters (exactly 4664 cm³). The compression ratio is 10:1, the same as the Porsche 928 (model year 1980). The maximum torque of 385 Nm or 39.2 Kpm is achieved at 4500 RPM.
This new large Porsche, tailored to performance-oriented drivers, reaches a top speed of around 250 km/h and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.6 seconds. It takes only 14.6 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 160 km/h, while the 928 takes 18.9 seconds for this acceleration.
Porsche has accounted for the higher achievable performance with even more effective brakes. The effective surface area of the internally ventilated disc brakes on the 928 S totals 326 square centimeters.
Compared to the Porsche 928 of the 1980 model year, the new 928 S consumes only slightly more fuel despite significantly higher performance (values in parentheses for the 928). At a constant speed of 90 km/h, it consumes 9.9 liters (19.5) per 100 kilometers, at a constant speed of 120 km/h, it consumes 12.5 liters (71.9), and in city driving, it consumes 19.7 liters (17.6). Even the Porsche 928 S is therefore considerably more economical than less powerful sedans.
Externally, the Porsche 928 S differs from the 928 by a front spoiler and a rear spoiler integrated into the rear window frame. New forged aluminum wheels of size 7 Jx 16 emphasize this changed appearance.
