Porsche 911 1977
The new basic model of the 6 cylinder 911 range is the Porsche 911 SC, which replaces both former models, the 911 and Carrera 3.0. The new 3 liter engine develops 180 HP at 5500 rpm, and places the new car close to the former Carrera in regards to performance.
But even in styling and equipment the Porsche 911 SC is very similar to this version. A 5-speed manual transmission is just as much part of the standard equipment as the brake pressure booster, hydraulic clutch and wider rear fenders (7" rear wheel rims).
When comparing the first Porsche of 1964 with the newest model, it is quite clear that the model has been kept up with very much devotion to detail in spite of model consistency. Even the first Porsche 911 was a fast and high-performance sports car, but today all of this is reached at much lower engine speeds. The 3.0 liter or 50 % higher displacement provides the engine with a much higher torque, sc that driving can be considerably more flexible and effortless.
A major difference: driving a Porsche is definitely more economical over all the years. The conversion to regular grade gasoline for 911 engines in 1972 underlined the desire of Porsche engineers to build environmental cars in addition to the economical aspects.
Thanks to reasonable model upkeep Porsche engineers have been successful in maintaining a sports car in the Porsche 911 SC in its present styling, which is always ahead of its time by a few good ideas.
