PORSCHE PRESS KIT 1979 - Germany - 928

The large 928 has extended Porsche's market position.

Porsche 1979

The new 928, with which Porsche entered the market for large luxury sports cars, met and exceeded expectations. The demand for this em car exceeded the production capacity of the plant - proof of the attractiveness of the 928, which is considered to be the sports car of the eighties.

The 4.5 liter V8 light alloy engine installed at the front has an output of 240 hp and, as in the 924, is connected to the rear gearbox drive unit via a transaxle tube. As a result, Porsche has achieved even weight distribution and high traction on the driven rear wheels. The smooth-running, high-torque engine ensures superior performance: the 928 accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in less than 7 seconds, and the top speed is over 230 km / h.

The chassis of the 928 offers the highest level of driving safety and comfort. The rear axle that controls toe-in ("Weissach axle") guarantees optimum driving stability in curves. The 928 has sensitive, unaccustomed power steering with an assistance effect that is tailored to the speed.

The individual adjustability of the operating elements enables a "tailor-made seating position"; Energy-absorbing, regenerative bumpers made of polyurethane and extremely strong roof pillars are the results of Porsche safety research.
