The Prague Car Festival is back for its 15th edition, once again turning PVA EXPO Letňany into a meeting point for tuning enthusiasts, motorsport fans, collectors and everyone who simply loves cars. With its impressive exhibition space and a broad selection of automotive worlds, the event remains one of the most interesting appointments on the Central European car scene.
The festival brings together several different exhibitions, in a fascinating mix of highly customized street cars, racing machinery, supercars and historic vehicles.
One thing that becomes increasingly clear when visiting Prague Car Festival is that its main focus is not really on buying and selling cars or hunting for spare parts. Despite the presence of the Classic Expo and the historic vehicle auction, this is much more a celebration of motorsport and automotive culture. Numerous racing teams, competition cars and motorsport professionals are present, while thematic conferences and discussions offer additional insights into the world of racing. In this respect, the event is much closer to a motorsport festival than to a traditional automotive swap meet. Those coming in search of cars for sale, components or hard-to-find spare parts might be a little disappointed: the number of vehicles actually offered for sale is rather limited, and spare parts are almost nowhere to be found. But for those interested in discovering racing teams, admiring competition machinery and meeting people from the motorsport world, there is certainly plenty to enjoy.
Anyway, as always, it is the cars themselves that make the visit worthwhile. Among the most impressive machines we encountered this year ware undoubtedly the mighty, suprer-rare Maserati MC12 and a pristine Porsche Carrera GT, two true modern classics whose naturally aspirated, race-derived engines (V12 and V10 respectively) and unmistakable design still make them two of the most fascinating supercars ever built.
The SCI stand offered another couple of exceptional highlights: the Maserati 5000 GT ex Aga Khan, a rare and elegant representative of Italian grand touring, and a reminder of an era when exclusivity and mechanical character went hand in hand. Equally captivating was the Mercedes-Benz 300 SL presented by Saga Classic, the classic car department of Mercedes-Benz. With its unmistakable shape and legendary gullwing heritage, it remains one of the most desirable cars in automotive history. Prices for some of the super/hypercars for sale? Untoucheable, to say the least ...
Among the other interesting displays, we also enjoyed stopping by the Blue Bug stand of our friend Lukáš. It's always nice to meet familiar faces and discover the passion and dedication behind individual automotive projects. These personal encounters are an important part of what makes events like this special.
Another interesting attraction was the traditional historic vehicle auction organized by Retro Garáž. This was the 21st edition of the auction and the fifth time it was hosted at Prague Car Festival. Taking place in Hall 5, it featured a carefully selected collection of 13 vehicles, including some particularly interesting and rare examples. Among the highlights were a Porsche 356 B 1600 Super Coupé, a Mercedes-Benz 300 SL, a Porsche 928 and a Ford Mustang Fastback, alongside several rare pre-war BMW motorcycles. The selection was particularly appealing, with vehicles offered without a reserve price. An interesting opportunity for collectors and enthusiasts, and a nice addition to the Classic Expo programme.
Beyond the cars, the festival also offered plenty of entertainment. The programme included the Miss Czech Republic selections, adding a touch of glamour and show-business atmosphere to the exhibition. The combination of automotive attractions and live entertainment helped create a lively atmosphere throughout the halls. We cast our vote for the girl number 6.
One aspect that deserves a special mention is the organization and, above all, the people working at the event. Staff members were consistently polite, friendly and helpful, contributing significantly to the positive experience. A small detail perhaps, but one that makes a real difference when visiting a large exhibition.
On the practical side, food and catering were another pleasant surprise. The quality was good and, perhaps even more importantly, prices remained friendly and reasonable. In times when food at major events can easily become an expensive affair, this is definitely something worth appreciating.
There is, however, one aspect that is becoming increasingly difficult to overlook: ticket prices. With admission reaching 600 CZK this year, the continuous increase over recent editions is starting to become noticeable. While the festival offers a lot to see and experience, it would be nice to see ticket prices stabilize in the future, keeping the event accessible to as many enthusiasts as possible.
After fifteen editions, Prague Car Festival has clearly established itself as much more than a conventional car show. It is a celebration of automotive culture in all its forms, bringing together different generations of cars and enthusiasts under one roof.
And while there was plenty to see, the Carrera GT, the Maserati MC12 and 5000 GT and the Mercedes-Benz 300 SL were certainly among our personal highlights of this year's edition.
Good cars, friendly people, interesting encounters and a few things to improve: another enjoyable weekend in Prague!
