Interclassics Maastricht 2017
This year too we return to the car fair in the Dutch university city, on the border with Belgium and Germany. 2018 marks the twenty-fifth anniversary of the fair, so a selection of the best that has passed in these decades has been exhibited.
Thousands of classic car enthusiasts gathered at MECC Maastricht from January 11 to 14 as InterClassics Maastricht celebrated its 25th anniversary with one of its most ambitious exhibitions to date, showcasing rare automobiles, iconic marques, and a growing international presence.
The annual event transformed the exhibition halls of Maastricht into a showcase of automotive history, featuring more than 800 classic vehicles and hundreds of exhibitors from across Europe. Widely regarded as the largest indoor classic car exhibition in the Benelux, the fair marked a significant milestone in its history with a special anniversary edition dedicated to reflecting on its evolution over the past quarter century.
The centerpiece of the anniversary event was a curated retrospective featuring 18 exceptional vehicles, each selected to represent one of the exhibition’s historic themes from previous years. Visitors encountered celebrated marques including Ferrari, Jaguar, Porsche, Aston Martin, and Maserati, with several museum-quality automobiles drawing particular attention.
Among the standout exhibits was the legendary Jaguar D-Type, remembered for its dominance at the 24 Hours of Le Mans during the 1950s, alongside the elegant Aston Martin DB5, immortalized in popular culture through its association with the James Bond franchise.
Beyond the high-profile displays, InterClassics Maastricht continued to serve as an important marketplace for collectors, dealers, and restoration specialists. Luxury sports cars stood beside affordable classics, while vendors offered vintage automobilia, spare parts, restoration services, and memorabilia aimed at enthusiasts and investors alike.
Industry experts at the event noted a growing demand for so-called “youngtimers” — vehicles from the 1980s and 1990s increasingly viewed as modern collectibles. Models from brands such as BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, and Ferrari attracted heightened attention from younger buyers entering the collector market.
The anniversary edition also delivered strong attendance figures, with organizers reporting a record turnout over the four-day event. Exhibitors expressed optimism about market activity, with numerous vehicles reportedly sold during the exhibition, reinforcing the fair’s dual role as both a cultural showcase and commercial platform.
Since its founding in 1994, InterClassics Maastricht has grown from a regional gathering into an internationally recognized event on the European classic car calendar. Its 2018 edition underscored not only the enduring fascination with vintage automobiles but also the expanding global appeal of automotive heritage.
For visitors walking through rows of polished chrome, historic race cars, and impeccably restored classics, the silver jubilee edition offered more than nostalgia — it provided a glimpse into the craftsmanship, engineering, and stories that continue to fuel the world of classic motoring.
